Decorreu no dia 5 de Dezembro, o dia temático para a Energia na Conferência das Partes para Acção Climática, COP28, no Pavilhão de Exposição de Angola, com apresentações de representantes dos sectores do Ambiente, Energia e Águas e Petróleo e Gás.
O Sector Eléctrico representado pelos Engenheiros João Fernandes, Jandira Ribeiro, Luís Veiga e Zacarias Ferreira, apresentou a Estratégia e Projectos de Desenvolvimento de Energias Renováveis em Angola.
O Sector Eléctrico definiu como metas no PLANO DE ACÇÃO DO SECTOR DE ENERGIA E ÁGUAS 2023-2027, aumentar a taxa de electrificação de 42%, em 2022, para 50%; aumentar a capacidade instalada de 6 GW, em 2022, para 8 GW; e aumentar a percentagem de energias renováveis no total de energia fornecida de 61%, em 2022, para 71%.
A COP é o Órgão Supremo da Convenção, cujo objectivo é a adopção de medidas que levam à estabilização da concentração de gases com efeito de estufa na atmosfera, a níveis que previna a interferência perigosa antropogénica com o sistema climático. Este Órgão reúne igualmente como Reunião das Partes para o Protocolo de Quioto e para o Acordo de Paris.
A Convenção sobre Alterações Climáticas foi adoptada em 1992, durante a Cimeira da Terra, decorrida no Rio de Janeiro, República Federativa do Brasil e entrou em vigor em 1994. Actualmente 197 Estados ratificaram esta Convenção, representando a totalidade dos estados membro da Organização das Nações Unidas (ONU). Após 3 anos de implementação, verificou-se a necessidade da adopção de Acordos internacionais complementares para catalisar acções de implementação em cada Estado membro da ONU. Foi assim que emergiram o Protocolo de Quioto e o Acordo de Paris.
