No âmbito do Projecto de Apoio Institucional e de Sustentabilidade ao Abastecimento de Água Urbano e ao Serviço de Saneamento, co-financiado pelo Banco Africano de Desenvolvimento (BAD), encontra-se a decorrer a “Prestação de Serviço de Promoção de Higiene e Mobilização Social em Água e Saneamento”, levada a cabo pela Organização Não Governamental (ONG), Development Workshop (DW). Esta prestação de serviço que decorreu ao longo dos últimos 28 meses, teve como principal objectivo reduzir as práticas de defecação ao ar livre, assim como o número de doenças relacionadas com o saneamento básico, melhorando a qualidade de vida dos mais vulneráveis do município.
Assim, está a ser realizado hoje, dia 20 de Março, um Workshop na cidade do Sumbe, para apresentação do impacto das actividades de mobilização social. A ONG desenvolveu campanhas de mobilização social em água e saneamento pelas comunidades e nas escolas, e ainda demonstrou como construir no município 100 latrinas melhoradas e respectivos dispositivos de lavagem de mãos, tendo seleccionado 100 famílias carenciadas. Estas construções pretenderam demonstrar como se constroem latrinas melhoradas, a baixo custo, com materiais locais, incentivando as comunidades à construção das mesmas. Cada latrina demonstrativa construída resultou na construção adicional de 300 latrinas construídas pelas próprias comunidades, perfazendo um total de aproximadamente 400 latrinas. Ao construir as latrinas, a ONG encorajou e formou mulheres e jovens voluntários que criaram os seus próprios negócios, quer na construção de latrinas, quer na produção de materiais de construção, por exemplo blocos e ainda na produção e comercialização de sabão artesanal, num total de 170 membros do seio da comunidade. A DW apoiou a Empresa Pública de Água e Saneamento (EPAS) do Cuanza Sul na implementação do modelo de gestão comunitário dos 62 chafarizes construídos no âmbito da obra em curso, cuja a operacionalidade e a cobrança é de 100%. No dia de ontem, dia 19 de Março, foi ainda certificado um bairro do município do Sumbe como livre de defecação ao ar livre.
O Workshop foi presidido pela Directora Nacional de Águas, do Ministério da Energia e Águas, Elsa Ramos e contou com a participação do Governo Provincial representado pela Dra.Elisa João do Gabinete Provincial de Infra-estruturas e Serviços Técnicos. Estiveram presentes membros da Administração Municipal, Autoridades Tradicionais, representantes da Direcção Nacional de Águas (DNA), da EPASKS e ainda estiveram presentes os beneficiários do Projecto, num total de 76 participantes que tiveram a oportunidade de dar os seus testemunhos sobre o impacto positivo das actividades.
