A província de Benguela, no âmbito do Projecto de Saneamento Inclusivo nas Cidades Costeiras, fase I, beneficiará de um Sistema de Saneamento lnclusivo nas cidades de Benguela, Lobito, Catumbela e Baía Farta.
A cerimónia de lançamento do referido projecto teve lugar, no dia 22 de Fevereiro, no salão nobre da Administração Municipal do Lobito e contou com a presença do Vice-Governador para Área Técnica, Adilson Gonçalves, Directora Nacional das Águas, Elsa Ramos, o co-financiador do Banco Africano de Desenvolvimento, representado pelo Pietro Toigo e o Administrador Municipal, Evaristo Mário.
De referir que o Banco Africano de Desenvolvimento em conjunto com o Africa Growing Togheter Fund e o Governo angolano irão financiar este projecto num valor total de 150 milhões de dólares e será implementado no período de 2024 a 2028, tendo já sido assinado em Outubro de 2023, o acordo de financiamento.
No decorrer do evento foram feitas apresentações, que procuraram destacar o caminho decorrido até ao presente momento do lançamento do projecto.
De recordar que o projecto teve início em Janeiro de 2019 e visou assegurar a comunicação e a participação das comunidades, ouvindo as suas preocupações, opiniões e necessidades, para incorporação das mesmas no desenho do projecto.
De salientar que este projecto tem como maior objectivo contribuir para a melhoria das condições de vida das comunidades, através da melhoria do acesso ao saneamento seguro, da erradicação da defecação ao ar livre e, consequentemente, da redução das doenças de origem hídrica.
O serviço de saneamento pretende abranger 100% das famílias nas áreas do projecto das 4 cidades, através da recolha de águas residuais pelo sistema de drenagem e a recolha e transporte de lamas fecais por limpa-fossas. Para o efeito serão construídas 2 estações de tratamento de águas residuais e 2 estações de tratamento de lamas fecais, 65 km de rede de colectores, 11 estações elevatórias, 13 estações de transferência de lamas fecais, 16750 ligações domiciliárias de saneamento, reabilitação ou apoio à construção de 17 000 latrinas, 306 instalações sanitárias para escolas, unidades de saúde e mercados e ainda 3 casas de banho públicas na Baía Farta.
Com este projecto, prevê-se ainda a criação de cerca de 160 empregos permanentes e 400 temporários. Contando com um programa específico para integração de jovens profissionais e com a sua execução (do projecto), serão capacitados quadros nacionais em diferentes áreas de especificidade, afectas ao saneamento.
Ao mesmo tempo das obras de construção, serão levadas a cabo actividades de mobilização social junto das comunidades, por forma a assegurar o envolvimento das comunidades na fase de construção, mantendo-as permanentemente informadas, assim como sensibilizá-las para a melhoria dos hábitos de higiene.
O evento contou com mais de 150 pessoas da sociedade civil, membros das autoridades provinciais, locais e tradicionais, assim como de líderes comunitários.
